Support your Willpower
Willpower, a mysterious force within that we both, credit for our successes and blame for our failures, but what is it really? Is willpower a characteristic, an action or practice, a motivation..? It's seems a bit unquantifiable and undefinable, but what I can tell you is this, studies show that willpower alone is quite unreliable as source of success or an agent of change.
When it comes to New Years Resolutions specifically, the statistics suggest that our collective willpowers need some help. One recent American study (I searched for a similar Norwegian study unsuccessfully) found that around 45% of people make New Years Resolutions, and only 8% actually achieved their goal!
Working in the fitness industry for over a decade, I've seen this result all too often, and experienced it first hand with my own resolutions, more times than I care to admit. Though the solution is not as complicated as it might seem, and can be summed up in one simple word, support. If we support our choices and the willpower we exercise to see them through, our chances of success greatly increase.
Here are a few ways to add support for successful 2017 resolutions:
1. Make plan
2. Join a community
3. Seek expert advice
4. Use social media for accountability
5. Be flexible with your goals and the path that leads you to them.
